TCU GmbH & Co. KG

TCU bundles the shipping requirements of its partners in maritime hinterland traffic.

More than 120 freight forwarding companies and shipping companies of repute use the competence of TCU when container transports need to be handled by rail from the ports of Hamburg, Bremen, Rotterdam and Antwerp. Established in 1971 by a few medium-sized freight forwarding companies, TCU has successfully adapted its business model to the changing market conditions and continually expanded its circle of customers. Today, TCU offers simple access for booking and monitoring container transports with many rail providers and also barge operators, predominantly in Germany but also in the bordering countries.

From its site in Bremen, the 60 employees at TCU direct hundreds of individual transports on a daily basis. Competitive prices play an important role in this respect - a demand which TCU is able to meet through the bundling of the purchasing power of its customers. A continuous growth in volume over the last few years is evidence that its tariffs remain in line with the market.
In the course of time, TCU has also acquired further competences. Deviations from official schedules of shipping companies and railway providers and also disruptions in the infrastructure at individual ports are today part and parcel of the daily routine in handling the land transport of maritime consignments. The professional manner of dealing with disruptions in processes is an important quality attribute which recommends TCU to its users. The large number of containers transported by TCU enables it to react with greater flexibility when disruptions occur. In this respect, even the railway providers gain benefit from the market participation of TCU.

A typical wish of logistics companies is always to secure sufficient capacities whilst at the same time remaining flexible in price. Other customers of TCU aim at the outsourcing of entire logistic chains from the sea port right up to the warehouse of the importer. The direct use of empty import containers for exports is organised by TCU on behalf of a collaborating user network. The quick delivery of empty units to the required location is likewise a service utilised by TCU partners. Well-coordinated processes, refined over the years with the providers, have meanwhile enabled TCU, as a specialist for rail transport, to become a partner for major overseas freight forwarding companies when they need to handle transports with special requirements.
